Display brigtness - any hopes to improve?

Adrian (the name of my "new" 2006 avensis) is equipped with GPS, but the brightens of the display is atrocious. I blame the age or the car and the solutions available in 2006. Is there any way of improving it? Changing the screen? Overriding the highlight voltage? I'm more than OK with keyboard or soldering iron, all working options are on the table 🙂 On a sunny day it's impossible to see anything on the screen and I'm thousand miles down south from the UK, so almost every day is a sunny day.

Hi Przemo, most Toyota navigation systems 2006 onwards have adjustable brightness. Check your owners manual if you have one.Look for "Display" or "Setup" menus with brightness controls. Some systems automatically dim with headlights so try adjusting instrument panel light brightness first. Don't modify voltage it can damage electronics.Hope this helps.

Thank you! It's already set to max, that and the contrast were 2 things I tried immediately after getting into the car. I'll check if switching off the light improves the situation the level where the display would be useful, however I have habit of driving with the lights on..

P.S. If I can's make the display bright enough asking about maps update is pointless..
