Max Tire Width On 6.5" Wheel?

Hi All,

I'm replacing the tires on our '96 Rav4 and need to know the max width tires that will fit correctly without bulging on a 6.5" rim. Stock is 215/70/16. I'm looking to go to 225/65 or 235/60. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Jon

Hi Jon

The recommended rim sizes for your tyre combos are:

215/70/16........6-7.5" rim

225/65/16........6-7.5" rim

235/60/16........6.5-8" rim

You could use a 235/60 on your standard rim but they will look a little stretched.

Why not go for an after market alloy, say7.5".

hope this is some help,

Stu

Thanks for the info. It's a big help. Hearing that the 235's will look stretched makes me think I will likely avoid them. I'd get wider wheels, but the budget prohibits it. It's tires only for now. Where did you find the sizing info? I'm curious because I searched a lot on the web and couldn't come up with anything this definitive. You must have a good source.

Thanks,

Jon

Thanks for the info! :D

I see that some people go to 225/70/16 on 6.5" wheels. I'm interested to hear if going to a 225/70, which is taller/wider than stock 215/70, has any noticable effect on handling and/or performance. Anyone have experience with this size?

Thanks,

Jon
