Check Light Code 402 "egr Excessive Flow Detected

Check Engine with 402 Code (EGR staying open). It was suggested that I try carb cleaner in the throttle body. I tried this with cleaner that would not damage the O2 sensor. It worked for about 15-30 minutes then the check engine light came on again. I tried again with the same results. So what does this mean and what should I be looking for next? The car seems to run OK. I did check the EGR valve, acoording to Haynes it is in good condition. 1997 Lexus ES300 - 52K

Thank you for giving me the link to the Toyota check codes. Because of this:

97 Lexus ES300 52K. Diagnosed and repaired with help from this forum and the Toyota forum. Although neither the Haynes manual or the codes provided by the code reader that I purchased had the definition of the "1411" code. A kind person (you) on the Toyota Newsgroup {http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=15&t=28920} gave me a link to the Toyota trouble codes {http://www.troublecodes.net/Toyota/} and "1411" lead me directly to the EGR Valve Position Sensor. I measured the resistance and sure enough it was out of spec. This sensor was simple item to locate, test, and replace for $30. It seems to be a "dealer only" item. I wonder what would have happened if I took it to the dealer? Any comments. Anyway, thanks to all those who took their time to help me. Happy New Year! Lenny in Austin, Texas - seemed to help him system ~ g :P
