How Can I Fix Avensis Oversensitive Alarm?

Help? I Just purchased a 2003 Avensis Estate (16K miles) and the alarm regularly goes off (once set) for no apparent reason. It seems to be far too sensitive. Can anyone throw some light onto this problem and give any advice.

I have searched Internet discussion boards and seen chat about Avensis "...adjusting sensitivity by accessing a black box under driver panel" but cannot find any specific instructions or details. Dealer is useless and uninterested. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks- Nigel

Does it go off shortly after set ?

In other words if it doesn't go off it stays set i.e. you know if it doesn't go off shortly after setting then it will be fine

No, it does always go off quickly (ie. within 60 secs) after being set. It seems to be a more a sensitivity issue. Sometimes it will set and be fine for many hours. Another time it will go off after 5 minutes (especially if traffic is passing by). Thanks for taking an interest. -Nigel

right - it's not what I had on my old Avensis then - voltage drop from the Sat Nav power down triggering alarm.
