Carina Ii - Crunchy Gearbox?

Hi

The car has been ultra reliable since i had it - just have a little concern. My gearbox has always had a crunchy/rough feel to it when changing gears. I had a G reg before and the gearbox was so smooth i could press the gearstick halfway down with two fingers and it would slot into place - however with th K reg you really have to give it a shove especially when the engine is cold.

Could somebody whed some light on this - is there an oil i could use for lubrication?? is it a cheap fix otherwise or is the gearbox really on its way out??

I am a fan of MK II carinas and dont intend to get rid of it therfore all replies will be greatly appreciated
