Timing Belt/chain Replacement Interval

Anyone know when it's meant to be replaced?

My dealer told me 60,000 miles - but someone else has said it's a chain (rather than a belt) and therefore never needs to be replaced?

Thanks :)

I was sent a reminder to change mine at 60,000. Went into Mr T who said that its a belt and as such doesnt need replacing.

Dunno John, can't really help!

Hows the CTR anyway? And has your dad got your T-Sport now or what?

T-sports have a chain and the 1.3 probably does as well since it's NZ motor. I think most recent Toyota 4 cylinders have chains.

Chains don't generally get replaced for the life of the car, unless you drive it over 2-300,000 miles or so. The tensioner may get replaced though.

That is the beauty of the chain, you don't have the stupid expense of replacing a belt to deal with nor the labor (if you do it yourself) and you don't have to worry about a random belt snapping and destroying your valvetrain.
