Should I Be Worried?

Hi all,

Well, I collected my new Yaris on Friday and I love it too much :D !!!!!

I have one slight worry, nearly every time I turn the engine on I get a blue warning light which looks like a little thermometer on two wavey lines. I've checked in the car manual, and apparently this means LOW ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE ENGINE LIGHT. Normally I wouldn't be worried, but sometimes this light stays on for up to nearly 5 minutes  is this normal???

Thanks guys,

Lewis

PS if I wanted to change the gearbox oil, is this difficult and how is it done. thanks guys!

It's just a polite reminder to drive gently until the motor has warmed up.

When it goes off...

LET RIP AND FLOOOOR IT...

if you're on a track that is,

but try not to go over 3k rpm when the blue lights on...

You'll find it takes longer in the cold damp weather - but in the summer is normally off again within a couple of mins ...

Like everyone has said - just dont rag the behind off it unitl it goes off

It’s all been said already, I think it’s a nice little touch by Toyota.

This time of year it warms up around 0.8 of a mile. In the winter it can be another mile on top of that before it goes out, all depends on the ambient temperature.

I keep it at low revs as mentioned until then.

PMSL.....

You took the words right outta my mouth on the guesstimate there earpl....

Lewis - have you driven any other cars before? You may have noticed this temperature guage in different forms in other cars hopefully!!!! :D

Like Moffmo says, try and keep below 3k rpm. I do it on mine. Then for the new few miles, I don't go above 4k rpm...
