Replacement Tyres

Hi,

Does anyone have experience of replacement tyres on their Prius? My new acquisition has a mix of BF Goodrich 175/65 R14 52T on the front and Bridgestone and Champion on the rear. I thought that Toyota specified particular tyres for this car (1st series UK) with very different characteristics to the norm. But some of the tyres on this car were fitted by a Toyota dealer so maybe that requirement no longer applies, maybe original spec tyres aren't actually available?

So who has experience of replacement tyres?

Has anyone stuck with origina specs?

Are there any views on brands and how they behave

And how do I determine appropriate pressures if the tyres are so different to originals?

I certainly don't need to change tyres for a good while but nor do I want to go blindfold into the lottery of guessing pressures and maybe affecting handling.

Paul,

I am a new member of the Prius-UK yahoo group and have just started a database for Prius tyre data there - you might want to check it out...

not much in it yet but I am hopeful it will become useful over time.

Just checked and increased my tyre pressures recently to the upper recommended limits on the inner sill sticker.
