they are fairly easy to get engine tunig bits for but body mods are a mare. there arn't many places that do body bits for em so a bit of improvisation is called for.

Hi there Chilr and welcome,

AE92 GTi nice choice, at present they offer a lot of car for the money (many pounds per smiles value), from the days when Toyota made good quality cars.

Natrually due to this age rust is your main concern here, although it is a bit of a strange situation in that some GTis have rusted/rotted very bad yet others hardly at all!

Things to check on bodywork according to this forum (although certain allowances will have to be made due to age):

Front wheel arch edge where they join/screw to inner plastic arch (only ever bit of rust my car has suffered  )

Around windscreen

Sunroof corners (this was acknowledged as a major problem so much so that Toyota issued a re-call in 1995)

Arround rear side windows

Rear wheel arches

Rear of Sill (M.O.T fail)

Rear suspension/shock absorber mounts (Serious M.O.T Fail)

Rear Tail Gate

...no doubt i've missed somewhere

Mechanically check:

'Jumping' out of 5th or 3rd

Rear brakes, calipers sizing/handbrake not working etc. (this IS the achilies heel of the Toyota Twincam GT/GTi range)

Naturally make checks as per any older car due to age/milage etc.

There are plenty about so look around and try a few (you'll love the seven dial dashboard  and the 4AGE Engine that rev's and rev's :yes: )

The Corolla GTi to me was one of the best 'alrounder' GTi's of the 1980's and represented a high standard of comfort, drivability and durability.

So much so I've had mine for over 12 years
