'87 Supra Idle Speed Adjustment

Hi Guys

Hopefully someone out there can help me. Recently my '87 supra (auto) started revving higher than normal. When I put it in reverse or change from reverse to drive, it surges forward like it wants to take off and it requires more of an effort to keep it surging forwards when I brake. When I put it in park, it revs up to about 2000 RPM which seems pretty high compared to what it normally does. I know there are idle speed adjustment screws SOMEWHERE, just not sure where. If anyone knows where they are and can tell me how to find them (or even if you have a pic that shows them...) or even knows if this is what I want to find to fix my problem, I would greatly appreciate it. You can either post a reply here, or email me at reaperadam@hotmail.com

Thanks in advance

- Adam

Adam,

you might have another problem here.......does the revs fluctuate if you put her in drive and sit with you r foot on the brake........if it does then it could be the diaphram in the rev limiter.....this happened to me on mine two years ago and it took a garage 2 weeks to find it.....

if you layout is the same a mine on my MKII then under were the accelorator cable fits into its housing there is a small screw that regulates the amount of return on the cable. this may have come loose so the spring doesnt return as far and the revs sit higher.......

can you tell us any more symptons......like what she does at idle when i neutral or park are the revs still high then....

or the idle speed valve, notoroius for causing idling problems. And of course it could be the obvious one.. you havent got the aircon switched on have you?

I wouldnt advise adjusting the idle, find the cause of it instead.
