Most post 1983 Toyota engines (NON-Turbo) up to 2000 seem to survive best on any good quality Semi-Synthetic 10w 40 oil.

That is my experiance of course.

I've been using 10W-40 magnatec on mine and am very pleased, although i'm tempted to try a 0w or 5w next time for cold starting.

Using a lower viscosity oil (ie 5w 40) will make very little difference when cold starting if any at all as i am almost certain that in ireland you do not get conditions of -25 degrees or colder. 10w 40 gtx magnatec is perfect for the corollas and seems to be in my experiance much better than any of its rivals. Especially with having the magnetising ability makes it very good in preventing engine wear on start up
