Econo Mode Stopped Working?! Help!

Hiya,

Last week the green "econo" light on my 2000 w-reg Avensis SE that helps with the mpg stopped working

Any idea why?

Can it be fixed? Is it a bulb or a fuse?

Any idea how to fix?

If its a bulb and I have to take the dash out- how do I do this? Thanks!!! :-))

It's most probably a bulb gone out. Try taping in the light region, to check it's not a loose connection.

To replace the bulb is very easy.. do not even think about taking it to your dealers to let them do it!

1). Drop the steering wheel to it lowest position.

2). Remove the two 'star' screws at the top of the dash.

3). Pull the black surround off, it will require some 'jiggling' but you'll see how it comes off. There a two tabs at the bottom left and right aswell (Just pull straight from these areas).

4). Now remove the three 'star' screws that hold the speedo in place.

5) Pull the speedo out, disconnect the green plugs (there are two. Just push the small button in and the green tab will move to one side, releasing the plug).

6). Turn the speedo around, replace the bulb from the twist lock.

7). Do the reverse.

Any problems, PM me and I'll give you my mobile if needs be. :)

From your avatar it looks like you've got the Mark 2 Avensis, which doesn't have this feature.

It was only the 1.8 lean burn (7A-fe) that had the light.

Hello,

You must be right because i removed the speedo today and the hole for the "economy" light is empty, no screw cap even in there to pop a bulb in

Never mind i guess the 2.0 litre is a bit too thirsty to go all "economy" ;)

That's weird! Make sure you get one, as I personally find it a handy feature...

Yep, as stated above, the econ lamp is only available on 7A-FE (1.8) engined Avensis models. This is a lean burn engine, and the lamp basically tells you when it is in full lean burn mode.
