I've been experiencing a very stiff 3rd gear, as in it is very difficult to change into 3rd gear, coming out of 3rd gear is fine tho. It is only this gear that i am experiencing this problem.... does anyone know what this problem is or a way to cure the problem??

Also the backlight where the knobs are for the heat/fan are very tempermental, is it a case of replacing the bulbs??

Thanks in advance!!

So true. I have aproblem with it, and yesterday I left a service with

another "it's OK, we dont see the problem" answer.

Mine goes well 4/3, but 2/3 is sometime so hard to shift, and I will pull the stick out one day (during dirving). :ffs:

Mines exactly the same shift perfectly from 4-3. 2-3 is problematic.

Sometimes have problems shifting out of first gear into second. Usually changing very early stops this or changing at high rev 3-4000rpm????

any solutions?!?!

exactly same problem as Jin

i have the problem with unable to shift from 1 st to 2 nd gear frequently , and require several attempts,

as a result i have change the entire gearbox, the mechanic told me this is a usual problem when the gearbox gets old, (driving this corolla since 2002, changed new gearbox 2007)

i doubted his explaination, anyway it is fine now after i changed a new gearbox

I posted in this thread 2 years ago and still have aproblem with 3rd, but this time I have the exact problem with shifting to 2nd gear, from 3rd or 4th.

And sometimes, very rarely but is hard to shift out from 1st, too. Brute force is only help.

Anyone find the solution, or it will take a gearbox change?

The clutch is fresh replaced, 5000km ago.

at the end of the day there out to make money, so if they think that the problem isnt big enough to fix, then they will just get people to replace their gear boxes.

ive herd of oil filters that you only need to chaing the only once in 200,000 miles.........

but as the oil componies would stop making money from selling oil, they bought this iead up, and the guys that invented it made llots n lots of money.

shame really....

That is exactly the case Mint sauce!!

i mean if you look at some of the modern engines in your family, estate cars when you open the bonnet all you can see is a black engine cover with oil cap and screen wash and thats it!! all the money these days is in the service £$£$£

not only is the money in the service and maintenance costigs but the process of fault diagnosis is no longer a case of any mechanic knowing the ins and outs of a wide variety of cars.

with the age of electronics and the way they have become an integral part of a car engine its very much so a specialised field these days with the majority of work and fault diagnostics on new cars being under taken by brand specialists (dealerships) rather than smaller indepandant garages. mainly due the equipment and expertise to do such jobs being very expensive to both purchase and train for. unfrotunately its the way of the world we now live in.

Well, mine is 2002., 74.000km on the clock.

Everything else is running just fine, car is very thankfull for servicing (last 2 years I had no problems with it), but this gearbox problem is so annoying, espacially during the cold days, and I guess it is cold temperature od oil int he first 15 minutes related.
