Question About Pro Rata Salaries...

Ok, normally, I wouldn't have a problem working out a Pro Rata salary.

I've seen a position advertised at a school, and the starting salary is £20,895 Pro Rata.

Working hours are 37 hours a week, and it's during term time, and 2 weeks during school holidays.

This means 42 weeks of work during the year.

Now, do I assume I'm only paid for the weeks I'm working?

How are you teachers paid out there in school land?

Thanks for your replies.

My wife is paid all through the holidays but they take the pro rata and divide by 52 weeks, then times by the number of weeks you actually work to give the amount to pay then they divide that amount by 12 to give the monthly salary so you get paid over the holidays

So it should be

20,895 / 52 * 42 = £16,876 per year or £1406/month

but it's not quite that simple because you get a couple of weeks paid holiday if I remember correctly

yeah, teachers are paid for the time they work 'pro rata' but spread over the whole year.

The only downside is if you leave at the end of the school year, you are not paid for the holidays (so earn less effectively)

Well, holiday is either 24 or 27 days dependant on what they would start me off on (salary), but for arguments sake, lets say 24.

Again though, it's based on Pro Rata...

More info on that position Holiday entitlement...
