:D Hi folks

I have been running my 1998 Toyaota Avensis 2.0 hatchback for 3 months now! It has not let me down but I do havesome wear problems. The first is the very noticable wooly sound when first starting the engine, the sound disapears after a few seconds and then the car is ok after that. I have a slightly distorted front disc and huming noise from the o/s/r wheel arch which I have decided is the rear wheel bearing on its way out out, The car has been used for towing so I expect that would be normal. Other that that the car is amazing and i anticipate that it will go on for at least another 100,000 miles with regular servicing. It has 68,000 recorded miles and drives like new. I intend to keep the car and eventually purchase an MR2 as a second car.

Long live Toyota. Many of my friends own Toyotas from 1990 onwards and they are still in very good condition and they will not part with them even though they are quite old now!

Isn't 3 months a little short time to assess the car? I had an Escort 1.8 diesel that ran great for 6 months and proceeded to cost me £1500 in the two years that followed! :( My current Avensis which I've had for 3 years now has been flawless but that doesn't apply to all owners. :(

 Yes of course Dave!! 3 months is a tad premature. However in all of the years that I have been driving I have owned and driven heaps real heaps. The best car I owned was a 1986 VW Passat CL estate 1.8. It came to me at just over 90,000 and I took it round the clock 3 times in the 14 years that I owned it. It was still around last year!!

Avensis feels the same way that the VW did and drives as new so Iamanticipating that this car with care will do pretty much the same if I have it serviced and change the oil at regular intervals. I am told by my local Toyota dealer that the 2.0 is the more reliable of the range of its year and has experienced fewer problems. I guess that the engins and gear box is different from the ify 1.8 version! I willl keep you posted if any problems occur.
