This country really is going down the toilet! We need a revolution... viva la revolution lmao :D

I should run for PM.. I could do a better job in my sleep than these greedy monkeys, who are only interested in fooling the public into thinking they are doing a good job, and would rather look good to the rest of the world rather than caring about the people who live in the UK.

Fair play ...... I agree 100%

I cannot afford one and if I could I'm sure I could come up with an extra £200 a year

I would like to know where the dosh is going though .....

This is another sham, we already pay a huge amount of tax on the fuel we use. Those gas guzzlers are paying more tax because they are using more fuel?

How much more tax are they going to rob off us

It aint only about new flash cars.. sports cars which drop in price will also get an increase... its hard for people to run sporty numbers when they are not on a big income.

it says for sports cars and 4x4's. most affordable sports cars dont pollute more than an equivalent family hatchback

its rubbish, as always they are making sweeping statements about vehicles.

theyve gotta do something about that point when tax from smokers will likely fall due to not being able to smoke in public.....

Anyone got a Site which tells you which cars are in what groups??

Fuel tax also went up by 2p, then next year it goes up by 2p then year after goes up by 1.5p or something like that.

When they say Sports cars do they mean M3's etc??? If so its stupid as most sports cars are greener than some old cars eg my old Merc uses more fuel than a M3!!!

£400 is just stupid but not as stupid as the suggested £2,000 by them Green people, I think its time to move to America or somewhere with lower tax.

Also, did you know that the UK only gives out 2% of the damaging emissions???... Even if we half our emissons its going to do <I thought I could get past the swearing filter - what a sad muppet I am eh?> all realy, The gov. is just using it to get more money and increase tax...

Oh and that 2p reduction on income tax or what ever it was was funny... Works out a £2 a week extra for the average worker :P. But to get that back they banged 2p onto fuel tax...

Thanks :D... So technically cars registered before 1st March 2001 still go by the cc size so at least when I get my MR2 it wont be a huge difference :)

The £300 - £400 tax is only for group G cars registered after March 2006... So technically if you can afford a £45,000 X5 then you can afford the extra £200 tax I supose... But Im guessing the motor trade will be loosing money in a few months with people going with smaller cars etc...

Where does an MR2 with no CAT come then?!

Might get a 1.2L engine conversion.

£99 for 6 Months

£180 for 12 Months

Not that much of a increase...

Quite, as I said on the Supra forum older interesting cars are pretty much immune to this particular jealousy tax because of the way tax banding on pre 2001 cars works :) Anything 1.6l or above is in the higher band and they're not going to stomp on people running older Mondeos, Escorts etc for a few years yet. Eventually it'll be made into an old car tax and ramped up really high though...

The sheer hypocrisy is what amuses me though, we won't put up taxes on air travel as we all like our foreign holidays and don't want to pay more for them... Road transport already contributes 3/4 of all green taxes in the UK despite being responsible for 1/4 of the pollution, but we live in London and don't need a car so we'll tax them more. Same with alcohol, tax up on beer and wine but spirits remain frozen as Gordo likes his whiskey... At least that one drew a chuckle from the house when it was announced ;)

^^ Yip.

Also the new higher band only kicks in for people registering their cars after March 06.

For "normal" cars the rates only suffer a minor increase that your decrease in income tax may almost cover

To take a random example, it looks like Les' pocket is going to be hit more by his red wine habit than by his car tax :D

(not that that stops the government being money-grabbing children-of-dubious-parentage)

Only if you earn exactly the right amount (20-35kish I think) will you be better off, below that and the abolition of the lower rate of income tax will cost you more than you save with the reduction in the basic rate. Above it and the changes to the way NI is calculated will sting you more than you save...

You have to wonder why make the change in the first place, other than as a headline grabber. Making those on low incomes worse off doesn't make any sense whatsoever...

that sums up the gov

and you know that the MP's are charging all this stuff to their 'account' so we pay for it twice over

I often wonder what would happen of the uk populace, the little people, all decided enough of this top tier 'elite' that does nothing for our benefit. Yet year after year most people still play the game and vote one or the other side of 'the same coin' in so they can fleece us.

Maybe one day we will find out!

vive la revolution ..... bring forth the guillotine
