Boot Struts

On my 2001 1.8 vvti the boot makes an awful squeaking when opening which i put down to needing new gas struts. Does anyone know where i can get these as i don't fancy paying £100+ from Toyota, and would prefer not to buy 2nd hand as they are only likely to fail again within a year or two.

thanks, Gary

the squeaking is more likely a hinge than the struts, although weak struts could feasibly put more of a strain on the hinges.

The best place to go is Status Fluid Power in Derby. They are a gas strut specialist and also offer a regas service. As your car is only 5-6 yrs old then the integrity of the struts should be fine. They do lose gas pressure after a while though. This place in Derby do a postal service. You send them your struts, they'll regas them as soon as they receive them and get them back in the post to you the same day. They also sell replacement ones if that's the direction you want to go. Very helpful company.

Thanks for the info, i'll give them a try. The sound seems to be coming from the struts because if i spray them with wd40 the noise stops, but only for a couple of hours, then starts again.

WD40 isn't much more than a quick fix usually.

A bit of 3 in 1 oil on your fingertip and 'massaged' onto the slider should last longer
