Have I made the right choice this time?

At Christmas we got our 2 youngest sons new bicycles, the youngest got a Saracen Raw 2 and the other kid got the more expensive Saracen Raw 3, we had major problems with the Raw 3's gear hanger snapping. To cut a long(ish) story short.. when my son went out on his bike the hanger would snap, now, it is designed to snap in the event of a bump or knock to prevent the alloy from bending/snapping, but this hanger would snap if he bumped down a kerb or changed into a lower gear, after the 4th time of snapping since Christmas we decided we had had enough and asked for a new bike, the shop has agreed and told us to pick a bike to the value of £500... which is what we paid for the Saracen.. and we have chosen a Carrera Fury, after reading a few reviews we found that it is supposedly the best bike in it's price range, the guy in the shop also said it would probably be better suited to our sons style of riding... but, have we made the right choice?.. any cyclists in the know?

looks like a decent bike, but the faulty one didn't look too bad either. I've never heard of rear hangers failing to this extent before though.

If you're really going to dish some abuse out on a mountain bike then the best thing to do is buy from a specialist mountain bike shop. Totally the wrong time of year for doing this though - I bought a Gary Fisher Marlin from my local BikeShop at the end of the season when they were clearing space for 'next years models'. Brand new 600 quid mountain bike for just over 300. Bargain.

Well I will be honest, I have a carrerra. Its a hardtail with an ok front suspension. The gears have never been perfect, and changed a few bits like the grips, seat tyres. It has had a snapped back axel from dropping down a ridge BUT with the serious abuse mine gets (have a look at the extreme downhill sections of Wharncliffe Woods) its held up very well!

Certainly a bargain & equally certainly they didn't sell it to you at a loss. Still probably made 100% on cost price.:2guns:

I have a Carrera Kraken and I think its good, 3 other people I know have also bought one and they say the same. The reviews for the Carrera bikes that I have seem have always been fairly good.
