Alarm Key Fob Ecu Programming

I have a 1998 Landcruiser Colorado VX diesel. (It's a beauty!) I bought it second had and it only came with one key & alarm fob.

I have bought a second hand key fob on eBay but cannot get it reprogrammed. I have read that I can reprogram it buy pressing the program switch on the Main Control Unit, (ECU?) for more than 2 seconds and then within 5 seconds press the key fob button. The cars horn will sound once and vehicles parking lights will flash once to confirm that the programming is accepted.

Is this the correct procedure?

Hi there

I have a 97 Cruiser and my key fob has just stopped working but Battery is fine so wanted to try reprogamming it. Did you manage to do yours and how did you do it?
