Help! Diesel Land (bj70 - 1987) Won't Shut Off!

Hi everyone, I'm new here. I did a quick search, I didn't see this topic. I'm trying to fix up an older diesel Landcruiser, the engine won't shut off. I tried fiddling with what looks like an actuator/solenoid (the motor arm seems to rotate like a wiper motor), and it did briefly shut off when I shut off the ignition, but now it's back to it's old tricks. I don't have a manual, electrical diagrams, none of the Toyota dealers here have the shop manuals either, so I'm lost.

I don't really know the principle of how this thing works, I gather the engine must shut off when 24V power is removed, so this thing is spring-loaded?

Its called the EDIC system. The arm has 3 positions, start(which is fully forward and activates the glow plugs) run (centre) and shut down(back)

It may need some adjustment on the arm.

Here is 35 posts from other, mainly canuck owners, having the same problems B)

There are also 12 volt models and the 2H diesel also has an edic system
