To Upgrade T3 Stereo

Think the answer is a big fat no but: I have the T3 with the sadly pathetic stereo (sound's like a portable from Tandy/Radioshack). Question is, can I simply stick in decent Speakers or is the actual working in the radio different between the T3 and T Spirit? Anyone know? Doubt I can afford to upgrade it but it is so disappointing - bearable of course, but disappointing none the less. Cheers, Jon
