hi roy,ect means ( electronic controlled traction) this button is really good at getting out of mud should you happen to get stuck, say if 1 or 2 of your wheels are spinning, when pressed it will transfer the power to the other gripping wheels and get you going again,i know this works as i do a fair bit of offroading myself and it is useful to use for this, but on road it does act like sport mode for up hill climbs, hope this helps, steve.

Steve.

It has nothing to do with traction to other wheels, please read this http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/h16.pdf
