Abs Unit Fault

1998 Avensis 2.0 CDX hatchback.

Failed MOT because ABS warning light was on (it only started coming on the day before and it was intermittent and I hoped it would stay off for the test). Local garage (not the one that did the MOT) tells me that it will be 250 quid to repair the ABS control unit because it has "gone down". They have some doubts if it can be repaired by the people they usually use because it is Bosch but may have Toyota internal parts, apparently. So the repairers have to look inside it and the car will be off the road for at least a week. I'll miss the retest window so that'll be another test fee to pay on top of the repairs.

Does anyone know about these units? Would it be feasible to get one from a scrapper? Any suggestions?

Chris

Ok, panic over. Getting one from a scrapper for 71 quid delivered, 30 day guarantee. Apparently a new one from Toyota has dropped in price to 196 + VAT - they've repriced some of their older spares.
