Urgent Help - Gearbox Problem

I have just bought a MR2 roadster today, my dad went to pick it up for me, and he thinks that a bearing has gone on the gearbox.

its a 2001, also the engine oil light flashes when you hit on the brakes.

The noise from the gearbox has got louder on the way home from my dad picking it up, about 30 miles.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me please.

I will be going to Toyota tommorow to see if they can find out what it is.

Also I forgot to mention, the car has had a new clutch in April 08, and the seller told me that the Toyota had told him that the gearbox will burn excessive oil with a new clutch

Welcome.

Never heard that one before. Sorry, but it sounds like B/S.

The engine will burn excessive oil if it has the oval piston syndrome that so many cars with this engine suffer from.

Keep a close eye on engine oil consumption.

My mechanic says my engine is fine.

But the gearbox is screwed.

Toyota wans £1600 just for a new gearbox, but the seller told me to go there.

My mechanic at my local garage told me that he might be able to repair my box, or I would have to get a new one.

I might run to Toyota tommorow to see if they can get me a report on my gearbox to show to the selller so he knows i'm not lying and trying not to con him out of money
