Can my 1981 Celica 1600 cc twin overhead cam, twin carb, be run on unleaded petrol

Think you'll need to check what engine you've got fitted as a 1981 Celica ST1600 was fitted with the 2T-B engine (single cam pushrod motor with twin carbs) whereas the twin overhead cam 1600 engine was the 2T-G and not originally fitted to the 2nd Generation Celica.

Either way unleaded is fine in both of these engines. The only engine that needs leaded/lead substitute is the 2-litre 18R engine (popular fitments as standard are Gen 1 RA23/RA28, Gen 2 RA40) but the 18R-G 2-litre twin cam fitted to the RA28GT and RA40GT use unleaded due to the alloy head.

If you do have a 2T-B engine you don't need any timing adjustment as I've done nearly 20,000miles over the last 3 years in my TA40 Sunchaser.

Hope this helps, Ian.
