Dogs, Dirt And A Tape Player

Hi there I hope somebody can help me.

My yaris is used mostly as a minature pick-up and has been throughly abused. The car works beyond its means in this way; dogs, mud, ditches all pose no problem. The one thing that has broken is the tape player.

This is where I need some help. The problem seem to be, on the face of it, the buttons. The tape/radio button no longer changes to the tape player and the eject button on the tape player seems to be sucken in slightly when pushed in. The tape only pops the very edge of itself out to a reasonable distance (for careful fingers to drag free).

Pushing a tape in does not start the tape playing either.

I wondered if there were any how to's that describe the wires that link everything together (so i dont destroy the car). I found the after sale cd player install guide good enough to get the panels off the front.

Has something similar happened to anyone? Any words of wisom?
