Driving along, the engine management light came on. I stopped the car and switched off the engine. After half an hour, I started the car again. The light stayed on. I stopped, waited again and then started the car once more. The engine management light went off.

I took the car to a Toyota dealer who ran a diagnostic test. I have now been told that the car needs a control valve and that the cost will be over £350.

What is a control valve and why is it so costly to replace?
