Just wondering if anyone here has ever DIY fitted a Cobra or similar car alarm to an >'03 Avensis?

Is it a big job? Thinking of taking it on myself.

Not being rude, i am just wondering why your fitting Alarm to car with immobiliser & alarm. I used to fit cobra alarms years ago in an Alfa garage, not that hard to fit due to old style wiring as against modern canbus wiring. I would imagine new alarm will come with all the required wiring diagrams.

My thoughts exactly, 2 alarms on one vehicle is asking for problems. Unless your factory fit one has gone for a burton and been disconnected, I wouldn't even think about it.

If that is the case, then the Cobra should be fairly straightforward for anyone with a reasonable amount of mechanical/electrical knowledge.

Certain your car has alarm fitted from factory. You have a double locking system with Central locking signal control module & central locking remote control module behind drivers side dash. Also behind passenger side dash you have central locking double locking control module. Or at least i have on Avensis 11 03 plate model. Alarm system module should be located in by your heater system behind glove box.
