T180 kit just around the corner........available from Kingo ;)

Kingo

VERY GOOD NEWS

Does this adjust injector timing? Keeping everything safe... e.g. no force fuelling/ increases in pressure?

:)

I am getting itchy reading about this... Never modded before and i might just have to make a start on this one. Is it hard to do?

Can i just clarify that chipping it will not kill my car (excuse my ignorance) i.e all ends in a cloud of smoke and bits of metal on the road. :o

Also, how much am i looking at here?

Regarding to what I understand about these things, there's chips only for engines with turbo...

Best regards, Alex

Thanks Kingo,

Well different is a good start :) Most, like 99% of the t180 chips just force fuel i believe. Theres a couple injector style ones.

Its been a year or 2 now so hopefully this is it. I'll get excited when you confirm it.

Before they go on sale, will / have they been given a good testing in house on current t180 engines... with the ECU flashes etc.

Cheers

My supplier has thoroughly tested this product in Germany over the last few months, it works on cars pre and post "Flash"

Not sure how it all goes together, but will get some info posted up as soon as I can

Likely cost around £375

So £375 for a non Toyota approved part that will cancel any warranty to any engine parts that are damaged by its fitting???

Not being negative, but thats a lot of money, for what must be a micro processor in a box, the same as the ones obtainable from reliable Flea-Bay sellers (Look at their feed back), for a fraction of that price.

Look forward to seeing the item, and would love to see a photo of the insides of the box to compare?

Ok I just wanna finish adding my 2 cents worth regarding the chip tuning box.

The kit comes as below. It even comes with a dongle for CR tuning. It is to be used instead of the box. Personally I don't know what that involves.

The first thing I did was to strip it because I wanted it black.

A couple of pics of the circuit board.

Since I didn't want to cable tie it to anything I had to make up a fixing bracket from a strip of stainless steel which later I lined with foam.

Now the installation:

First unplug the common rail plug. Mine is only 3 pins but I believe the SR180 and T180's have 6 pins.

Then I plugged in the wiring loom and run it to the back left of the engine bay.

I decided to mount my box here. The back of the box has a thin layer of foam too. I used screws with locking nuts on the back and rubber grommets to protect the metal. The exposed metal was painted before fixing the box.

I love the ease of installation and the benefits it brings. There is definitely more punch from 2nd, 3rd, 4th. I'm also reading up to 7mpg extra from the display. Clocked 57.9mpg coming home from work. I will know for sure when or IF I get more miles out of my tank.

The box comes set up at about +25bhp, but you can move the jumpers to get the full+38bhp. For now though i'm leaving as default.

Now I can say this with hand on heart that I'm not someone with a lead right foot so I won't be canning often. I'm primarily using for extra fuel economy (if it works). So with this attitude I'm hoping I don't get any trouble from component failure in the future.

If your talking about the dongle your showing above the box in the picture, then on the SR180, its just used when doing the instal, with the ignition off, you wire it into the loom, and the dongle lights green, switch on and rev the engine to 3000rpm and if the green light remains constant, then you ok to connect the box.

Your finding the same improvement in consumption that I have, its also a lot better through the gears.

Thanks for the info, may as well read the instructions and see what they say about it.

Yeah I agree, it does seem to be smoother through the gears. Overall I'm more than happy with the install of this box. Thanks for all you help. ;)

Hi Wastedagen. I went to an ECU specialist less than a week ago as I wanted to get the ECU remapped rather than have any visible 'bolt ons'. Having looked at the ECU and stripped it down (taking over an hour), he said there wasn't anything he could do with it because the ECU was made by Denso (Japanese) rather than Bosch. Had it been Bosch he could have done some remapping for me. This was a Specialist who remapped an ECU on a Ford Focus ST and increaed the bhp to 300+

When I spoke to him about these 'bolt on' type of chip sets, his response was that his belief was that the performance upgrade would only be temporary as the main ECU in the car would 're-adjust' to the default settings over time. He didn't recommend them. As a result I'd sort of resigned myself to the standard spec - until I read Kingo's note ! :yahoo:

On that basis, I'd really appreciate a further update in a couple of weeks time on how you're getting on and whether you've notived any gradual decline in performance. BTW - are you happy to disclose how much it cost you?

I got interested in this after reading about Haylands review on his installation. He has bought and installed the same box from the same guy as I. I paid £90 for it. I believe there are a few others that have done so too.

If it is true that the ECU will adapt and re-adjust itself then I suppose I would remove it. No point having it if I'm not benefiting from it. If I was to lose the extra grunt but still have the added 7mpg increase then I would still keep it.

I have just finished installing it and my next step (tomorrow) is to inform my insurance company. Should they come back with a silly increase in my premium then I will way it up and decided if it is worth keeping.

I will be happy to let you know on a monthly or weekly basis if I'm losing it's effectiveness.

hmmm can anyone back up the claim by the remapper to say the ECU re-adjusts itself?

I did think about the same thing too. I was wondering if the ECU re-map specialist is just giving some sales pitch. I honestly don't know. But I will find out in a month or two. After it's had time bed in.

Did he tell you that before or after he figured out he couldn't crack the ECU encryption?

I'm surprised he even looked, toyotas are renowned for being impossible to remap.

Well Id like to know who managed to only get an increase of just £50 for informing their insurance company. Mine, Direct line, upped it by £194, and Churchhill was an extra £174 for the year.

All I told them was, it was a tuning box added to the engine which increased the BHP by 25. They then calculated it as a percentage increase from the original HP and BAM I was ar@ed raped................

The total premiem was £486 and 412 respectively. Man I was paying that when I had my Honda Accord and that was a 2.5L with 197BHP. What Gives?..............

Anyway's it looks like I will be removing it when my insurance runs out at the end of March. I paid an extra £22 to Direct Line till then.

When our Corolla T-Sport was standard we were with Tesco and the price was £500 ish, declaring the mods sent it up to £800 ish, when the policy expired we moved to Adrian Flux and the price is now lower than the original Tesco one with a lower excess and the same policy details! These prices had the same NCB/Address/Driver details at all times.

Give them a ring, they specialise in modified cars :)

Thanks for the info cabcurtains. I gave them a call and the premium would be £365. Much more swallowable. Also for this price they cover any modifications too. If they get damaged in an accident they will replace them like for like. Free courtesy car too. Here and in Europe.

Not to shabby, will probably take this policy out providing all is still going well with the box.

I don't think he had an axe to grind as he was keen to sell me his services and would've sorted me out if he could. He didn't charge me at all for the hour + he spent on it.

I am waiting on how you get on wastedagen.

I gave up with one of my tuning chips where the ECU light comes on and I have had a high idle revs. (needed to reset ecu).

If it works for you I may request more information as I do not want a repeat of my bad experience.

I only fitted my Tuning box last Tuesday but haven't had any problems so far (touch wood). All positive. How long was yours fitted before you got the ECU light come on and have high idle revs?

What other info would you like? All my gen' is here. (My installation post).

I have had no erratic idling or any ecu lights.

No they dont, otherwise they would be redundant after a short while, ask anybody who has had one installed, they still get there added MPG and smoother drive

Kingo
