Padlock Maintenance

Hi Folks,

What does everyone use to secure the spare wheel cover (full cover) on the back of their RAV's?

I use a wee padlock and I'm on my second as I snapped a key in the last one because it was seized. My regime now consists of giving it a good WD40'ing after every wash and before any long journeys when I would be stranded if the padlock was seized.

So what does everyone else use - a padlock or maybe a bolt and a wingnut??

Hi, i found that a combination lock off my wifes vanity case did the trick when i owned a Rav, maybe you might find the same, i would still use WD 40 or maybe a grease to prevent the elememts entering the lock.

On the 4.3 you cannot remove the cover without opening the rear door, On my4.2 like you I used a baby padlock, which seized..I suppose an alternative to a bolt + wingnut would be one of those "dog clips" assuming you have a locking wheelnut on your spare wheel  A little combination lock may not seize as easily as a keyed lock
