How good was that???

A 3 week old team in a brand new car with next to no testing getting 1st and 2nd, and the car that started from the pitlane getting 3rd. Glad I didn't have a bet - I'd never have guessed that !

At times the race seemed like it was a contact sport too - excellent stuff. Hope the subsequent rounds provide even more entertainment.

Trulli demoted to 12th for overtaking under safety car.

Still considering that they started from the pit lane you have to wonder what they would have done if starting from their original grid spots.

Congrats to Brawn GP though - do you think that Honda are kicking themselves?

Does mean Glock got fourth though!

Was I the only one wondering what Lee McKenzie was wearing under her overalls!?

(Good job Mrs Duncerduncs was in bed :D )

Was a really good race.... I must admit to doubting Jensons ability to lead the pack.... I could just forsee some grave error at some point but he did very well.... sheer luck that Rubens got in 2nd after that crash between Vettel & Kubica and good old Jarno Trulli plonking himself in at 3rd...

What happened with Lewis Hamilton though - the BBC did report him as being 3rd when the safety car came out initially but then Trulli edged in... did Hamilton illegally overtake Trulli when the safety car came out and then had to revert back to 4th place?

He slowed for some reason and Trulli overtook him whilst the safety car was out, that's why Trulli has been given a 25 second penalty and demoted to 12th :(

Toyota say they are going to appeal the decision

So I've just read..... what a shocking series of events....

To be fair though, Trulli knows the rules about overtaking when a safety car is out.... :nono:

gotta say was much better racing. was skeptical about the KERS system but seems to work very well, must make it like playing a very realistic video game, hit NOS and fly past

I’m more impressed with Lewis going from the back of the grid into 3rd place. That is true world championship driving

got to say that that seems harsh to me with perhaps just a reversion of Hamilton to 4th being fairer.

Can't get away from th efeeling that the FIA seem to have something against McLaren & if it had been a Ferrari I doubt that anything would have happened ...

But Hamilton & McClaren deliberately mis-lead race officials.... they were caught out after stewards listened to their radio communications during the race....

I personally think the punishment is fair.... if they had been honest from the start Hamilton would still have his 4th place finish...

McClaren or Ferrari i don't think it matters.... you try to cheat expect a harsh punishment...

A top McLaren official has been suspended following the disqualification of Lewis Hamilton from the Australian Grand Prix.

Sporting director Dave Ryan has been at McLaren for 35 years. He was present when Hamilton was called in to meet Formula One stewards.

The British driver had been moved up to third from fourth, after Jarno Trulli was handed a 25-second penalty for overtaking the reigning champion behind the safety car.

But following the discovery of new evidence regarding radio transmissions during the race, it was found that Hamilton had given “deliberately misleading” evidence, and he was disqualified.

Because of Ryan’s role in events, he was suspended from the team this morning.

McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh said: “In my 20-odd years working for McLaren, I doubt if I’ve met a more dedicated individual than Davey. He's been an integral part of McLaren since 1974 and has played a crucial role in the team’s many world championship successes since that time.

"However, his role in the events of last Sunday, particularly his dealings with the FIA stewards, has caused serious repercussions for the team, for which we apologise. Therefore, I suspended him this morning and he has accepted this.”

Pretty sad stuff :(

Hamilton displayed some great driving despite a substandard car (Hopefully shutting up the critics who were saying he only won because of the car!), but now a silly thing like this and it's all wasted :(

I really hope it was just an unfortunate misunderstanding, but McLaren really need to get their act together; They can't afford to keep getting done for stuff like this!

Brawn GP are amazing 'tho; It shows that the work they put in as Honda last year really paid off. They knew their old car couldn't be salvaged, so they just let it stay crap and worked on this masterpiece instead

McLaren were the opposite; They pulled engineers off the new car to help boost the old one so they could win, and it paid off, but now they've got a lot of catching up to do...

having seen the footage & heard the transmissions sync'ed to it I think that it's been blown way out of proportion.

& I suspect that Dave Ryan has been "suspended" by Mclaren more to be seen to be doing something than anything else i.e. for show.
