  1. mk2 pay the extra and get the more up-to-date safety features like side and curtain airbags - It is a lot easier to upgrade things like the radio, all but the basic cars have reverse cameras too, plenty of aygo's about so shop around not an issue on later cars 06-07 cars did have issues, 1kr's don't burn oil unless severely neglected, on the other hand rattling timing chains are common, if you don't do regular oil changes with quality oil

  2. Just wanted to let you know that I contacted my insurer (Tesco) to ask if fitting wind deflectors was classed as a modification that needed declaring. After some deliberation they said that they are modifications and the underwriters would need to be informed, but probably wouldn't charge extra. I know it's nonsensical and makes no difference to the car but be aware that your insurer could look to void your policy if you haven't declared them, which would be a lifetime's worth of pain going forward. It's worth just checking and getting them to note it on the policy Don't shoot the messenger 😲

  5. One insurance company (LV) did give a discount when I informed them of a dashcam installation. Another, when phoning for a quote, and were told a dashcam was fitted, advised the underwriter will not cover for a user installed dashcam. I was asked, make and model, how much it was, was it removable, did I have a receipt and other questions. When I answered "Me" to who installed it that ended the conversation. I went elsewhere. Some of the comparison sites now ask if a dashcam is fitted.

  6. Cars usually arrive with transportation tyre pressures (often 40-50 odd psi. Dealer should drop them during the PDI stage but they often don’t.

  7. My Yaris was set at 2.5 bar when I first received it. Think that's 36 PSI Not sure if that had been done at the factory or as part of the PDI by the dealer. πŸ€” Assume that nobody knows what they're doing and you won't go far wrong, regardless of brand πŸ™‚

  8. I totally agree! I was quite suprised when the chap said let me see if its a modification and it will affect the price. Fortunately it didnt and its declared. I dont want to give the insurer any excuse not to pay out should the worst thing ever happen!

  11. Hello, im back with the news πŸ™‚ After a long waiting in quenee to machinc shop and few days of diagnosis, parts replacements - the reason of those humming noises was front right wheel bearing... The previous SPECIALIST mount it too tight, so after 1500km the inside grease was gone, which makes those noises. Everything is fine now with the car πŸ™‚ Thank you all for your support !

  12. It's also something to consider as part of any write-off settlement figure. If you had a towbar, for instance, you would have to add the cost of fitting a new towbar to any replacement car. That's how I viewed declaring that my other car had a towbar.

  13. Took my car in today to get mot/ wipers and security plates. I asked if they had any information on another security fix that they were supposed to announce by end of April but he says he knows about the expected announcement but says that there is just no information from Toyota yet, but he thinks it may be software update.

  14. One way of putting it, though absence of a dashcam could have a similar connotation. Mine could confirm I was speeding or confirm I was not. I had one Chinese dashcam that was much cheaper than Nextbase and superior on one respect. Its FOV was 170 degrees and included a full view of the steering wheel and could show where my hands were. No sureptious use of a phone of fiddling with the media system.

  16. If it is fitted before delivery and invoiced by the dealer the insured cost is declared. However, when getting insurance they usually ask about alarms and cameras. The only issue is if you add these after taking out the policy and before the renewal

  17. I'd say mk2 Aygo, since its 10 years now that the 1st mk2 was sold, you'll get some decent ones for sale.

  18. As a footnote - my insurance company said that adding dashcams is counted as a modification 😲 Madness I know but since when have insurance companies been your friend They act as complete judge and jury

  19. I think the insurance company's argument is that if it was a sticker relating to performance mods then that would indicate a certain driving style. If it was a sticker with some sort of statement/opinion then they could make you a target for vandalism

  23. Medical renewals are notified at 90 days prior but ordinary renewals are much less - all notifications are advisory and some may not receive one at all - the DVLA are not 109% efficient. Best sticking the renewal date in your calendar and remember that photo licences need to be renewed every 10 years with an updated photo regardless of the overall expiry date. Do it online if you can: https://www.gov.uk/renew-driving-licence

  25. Just placed my order this weekend for a Premiere Edition through my local Dealer. I absolutely can’t wait to get back in a Toyota. I drove a Yaris cross excel last year, knew I wanted one but didn’t bite the bullet. Then I heard of this premiere edition in khaki green and just couldn’t miss out on this one. I have been honestly told by the dealer they have no clarity or certainty on the production date and I should anticipate 6months to not get my hopes up. This wait is going to drag, but hopefully worth it πŸ™‚

  36. I think the point about declaring modifications is not entirely about changes in performance - wide wheels, sound faster exhaust, blacked out windows - but about claims cost. If you were to install a space saver, convert to JBL, fit mudflaps etc, these would not be covered in the event of a claim. Suppose the car was broken in to and your installed item was stolen, was the break in due to your modification? Your after market item would not be covered and any associated damage excluded too.

  37. The Zip file is not corrupt - I have just now downloaded it for a third time. It takes a little while but downloads OK. My befuddled brain vaguely remembers folk have difficulty unpacking the, apparently corrupt, Zip file on Apple devices (maybe) and having to use a third-party unpacking tool. Maybe another forum member / victim of that feature can remember and put us straight on that one? This morning's download still incorrectly places the update files in the root directory, so that the workaround I mentioned above is still required. And the success of an OTA update depends on the base maps not being too out of date - though I'm none too sure quite how "too out of date" is defined. I always update via USB since that saves the OTA download bandwidth, is always successful and I have two cars to do (with the same USB).

  38. To be fair even Toyota dealers do this sometimes My first Mk1 was at another dealer and the dealer I bought it from were basically if you want it you need to commit as we won't ship it all the way down here otherwise, and being a bit naive as to what Used Approved meant I agreed (Hint: It's means smeg-all). I basically bought it sight-unseen, and while the car was basically okay, in hindsight I probably overpaid for the condition it was in; The rims had severe Mk1 alloy wheel peel and the boot had a small garden centre's worth of sand and shrubbery in it which I only discovered later when I looked in the spare wheel well. Now as a more skeptical and suspicious person I would absolutely not buy a 2nd hand car unless I can see it in the flesh and test drive it from cold. The funny thing is a lot of these mail order car companies like Cinch and Cazoo work in this exact way - You're effectively buying the car sight-unseen and have to rely on them honouring their own agreement if the car turns out to be duff in some way. I'm surprised they've been so successful as I'd never buy a car in that fashion if I could help it, esp. as I'm under the impression a lot of their cars are from auctions...

  41. it depends on how much milage you intends to put on the car. For myself, as I'm a delivery driver (driving 20K annually), I would go for the low mileage to get more life out of the engine. But if I was doing normal driving (3 - 6K annually), the 80K should be fine. As for comfort goes, definitely MK2 on the steering wheel control and much better audio system.

  43. I haven't driven a HEV RAV4, but I have no complaints with road or wind noise with my PHEV. Of course road surfaces and/or tyres can effect the noise the same as say high cross winds but these would create noise on any car. You can count on my vote for the PHEV.

  46. When mine was dirty its time for just cleaning the camera lens but in the meantime I just use the mirrors all 3 of them.

  47. That's the whole point. The camera should be able to assist parking. If you need to get out to clean the damn thing, then you can have a look around, rendering the camera unnecessary. I tend to wipe a wet finger over mine every time I stop when thre roads are wet.
