Fuel Crisis - and is it improving?
So what's behind the crisis?
The key issue is there aren't enough drivers to supply petrol.
There's an estimated shortage of more than 100,000 HGV drivers and petrol is only the latest industry to be hit.
The lack of drivers has caused problems for a range of industries - from supermarkets to fast food chains.
Fuel tanker drivers need additional safety qualifications on top of their HGV licence to be able to transport chemicals such as petrol.

Toyota shows its intrepid side at the Adventure Travel Film Festival
From the city-storming new hybrid electric Yaris to the mountain-topping Land Cruiser, Toyota showed attendees at the Adventure Travel Film Festival that it offers a vehicle for any expedition, however big or small

As headline partner of the event – a showcase for films that document adventurous journeys undertaken by independent film makers – Toyota took the opportunity to demonstrate the features of some of its latest models, including a newly converted Proace Matino camper.

The festival, held last weekend, 13-15 August, in the picturesque grounds of Hatherop Castle School, Cirencester, is the brainchild of adventurers, Lois Pryce and Austin Vince, and is a celebration of travel that brings together film makers from around the world.  Its diverse programme showcases journeys undertaken using all manner of transport, this year including kayaks, cars, bicycles and even a 41-day ocean crossing on a self-built, motorcycle-propelled raft.

Lois Pryce, co-curator of the festival, sees the partnership with Toyota as a natural fit: “When you think of the most hardened vehicles that can be used in all conditions, you think of Toyotas,” she said.

“The Land Cruiser has been conquering far-flung landscapes for 70 years and, having travelled through some of the world’s remotest regions, I fully appreciate the quality, durability and reliability associated with Toyota’s off-road heritage. It certainly looked like the people I saw with Land Cruisers in the desert didn’t need to replace them often!”

For those who like their adventures to come with a little more relaxation, Toyota used the Adventure Travel Film Festival to reveal its newly converted Proace Matino camper, created by award-winning conversion partner Wellhouse Leisure.  Based on the medium wheelbase, high-power, eight-speed diesel automatic Proace, the four-berth, pop-top camper comes with creature comforts including a Webasto heater with mobile app controls, two-burner hob and sink unit, 25-litre fridge, touch-screen controlled LED mood lighting and 100W solar panel.

Available to order from Toyota retailers across the UK, the Proace Matino camper is available from £52,000.  Full details of the conversion can be found here: https://wellhouseleisure.com/conversions/toyota-matino-2/.

More information about the Adventure Travel Film Festival, including a list of the films screened this year, can be found here: https://www.adventuretravelfilmfestival.com/cotswolds-festival/.

Toyota GR 86 makes starring debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed
Thousands of spectators witnessed the dynamic world debut of the new Toyota GR 86 coupe at the Goodwood Festival of Speed at the weekend (9-11 July)

The latest model to join the elite range of Toyota’s “GR” performance cars was seen in action in public for the first time on the famous hill climb course at Goodwood House in West Sussex. It took to the track in the company of its sister models, GR Yaris and the exclusive GR Supra Jarama Racetrack Edition, to  give a flavour of the speed and handling quality delivered by direct development input from Toyota Gazoo Racing, Toyota’s international motorsports operation.

The Toyota GR 86 will be a successor to the multi-award-winning GT86. Due for launch during 2022, it will build on the qualities that distinguished the GT86, retaining a classic front engine/rear-wheel drive set-up. It will benefit from a larger, more powerful 2.4-litre horizontally opposed “boxer” four-cylinder engine and, while its dimensions will be near identical, it will gain an almost 50 per cent increase in torsional rigidity, key to its sharper handling and steering.

Toyota Gazoo Racing UK was also in action at Goodwood, with British Touring Car Championship stars Rory Butcher and Sam Smelt taking the wheel of the Speedworks Motorsport-prepared BTCC Corolla. Butcher’s turn of speed earned him a top-10 result in the festival’s timed shoot-out competition. There was also a festival debut for the BTCC’s Corolla hybrid development car, also prepared by Speedworks in their role as official testing partner for the new powertrain technology the championship is due to adopt from 2022.

On the festival’s Forest Stage, rare Toyota rally cars were in action, including Celica RA40 and GT-Four ST 185 models.

Adventure Overland

I will start the panamericana in the next days. This time without an specific time frame, or route plans. I will decide during the day - what I will do on the next day. I`m 40 now and always dreamed about an extended or big trip. There is no timeframe who looks perfect for something like that. In the early 20`s I had not enough money. Later the career don't called for an break. With 40 both doesn't looks better, to be honest. But sometimes we have to risk something.
Time is the most valuable what we have - why not risking something - to take time for ourself? We don't know if we are able to travel that way when we are retired. So I did quit my job and will start in the next days.
Here you can follow my journey:
Like on our transafrica - I will report in SMS Style over my two-way satellite-Messenger - till I have an Internet connection to upload larger text and pictures. I hope to write on a daily base - but when travelling extended and without an exact schedule, this may be hard to write that often.
For the Transafrica I was well prepared, had a tight schedule, a booked car shipping homewards - I love the freedom who comes with the new trip!
My funds are not very high, but for overlanding you (should) not need much money. No Hotels, not much restaurant food, wild camping - helps to save money.
I hope to meet up with some travelers from here, and with members on my way up. Give me a note, if you see that I will cross your area!!
