Thats excellent, and will save me a few £`s. I think I will varnish mine to weatherproofit. You`ll put Thule out of business at this rate, LOL!!!!!!!

I think you could not only varnish it for extra weatherproofing, but also, round the front edge for extra aerodynamics!

Does this mark the return to wood for car manufacture!

Well it goes against the "grain" a bit but maybe I'm just "bark"ing up the wrong "tree". Any chance of you knocking up a spare flywheel out of oak or even a wagon wheel for the XTR guys?

This Roof Rack was really hilarious. I came over this car last year at a car park. Must be the dumbest idea ever...

hah -

Lets hope it doesn't detach at high speed on the m6 and impale into someone and cause a nasty accident. Which certainly will not be funny.

Funilly enough i had a builder come round to give me a quote recently, He had 2 lengths of rough 4x2 timber literally bolted to the roof of his Escort van using 4 coachbolts straight thru the timber + the roof of his van, he had then used a line of bathroom sealant to mask the gap between the timber + his van roof..WTF (he didn't get the job) :cowboy:

I hope for him that he bolted it through the frame of the roof, and not just the sheet metal!

I can however see some benefit by using timber as a Roof Rack. Say you bought a lot of timber for a building project at your house. Then the far easiest way would be to just screw the timber straight onto you timber Roof Rack! No hassle with a cargo strap! Just bing your drill and some long screws!

Plus - if ever you were cought out in the wilderness...man can make fire with the wood!...or wait long enough for it to turn into crude oil!
