Fog Lights

Hi, I have just purchased a 53 avensis t3-s D4D with no foglights. I have spotted however that there is only one blanking plate on the left hand side of the car (looking head on) where the fog light would normally go and that the one on the right is missing.

I contacted Toyota who advised me that it had been intentionally left off as it is a diesel engine and therefore the engine needs the air flow through this gap. I asked how this can be as surely with the foglights fitted this gap would no longer exist. Toyota could not explain this other than to say it would be alright with foglights fitted but not with a blanking plate !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can ayone advise if this is true

the for lights are a little smaller than the gap on the car, so there 's a way for the air to reach the intercooler
