Brake Caliper

The garage phoned today to say that the car is ready to collect having had the sc valves changed, BUT, they advise I leave it with them to have a sticking front right brake caliper changed. They said they've tried to free it, but it won't go, so I need a new part. They want £250 plus labour. I've done a quick search on google and eBay and calipers are coming up at less than £40. What am I missing?!! Are the cheap one reconditioned, and is £250 a reasonable price for a brand new one? It's a 2003 d4d gx

No its a ludicrous price. I can get you a caliper much cheaper than that which might be reconditioned and might be new but with a full warranty. Fitting is dead easy (as shown in the maintenance tips) or you can get a local indie to fit it but tell them thanks but no thanks.

if the caliper's been sticking you might want to check the thickness of the disc as well... the disc can be checked with the caliper off easily be checking the thickness against the minimum thickness normally imprinted on the inside of the disc.
