Hilux Surf Oil Leak

First off it's nice to be a part of the forum. I own a 91 Hilux Surf with the 2.4 liter turbo diesel. I have an oil leak coming from the valve cover. Is this a common problem? Just a bad seal? What can I expect to pay for a repair cost in Canada? I'm paranoid the leak may be caused by something more serious like a cracked head. What are some signs to watch out for? The truck runs perfect when up to temperature and never overheats. Thanks a lot for any replies.
