I have recently lost my key to my 06 corolla and as i never got a spare with the car i have to get a replacement set. The dealers are charging just under £1000 for these new keys!!! it hard to believe how much they're charging so i was wondering is there any other way to get new ones. would it b possible to take all the parts including the brain off a breaker and put it into mine? if anyone else has had this problem and found away around please let me know, thanks!!!

the dealer have sent out a new key but this only allows me to open the car. i dont understand how they cant just put a new chip matching my car, into a new set of keys. its making me think its just a money making scam! They want £480 plus VAT for a new brain, £180 plus vat to fit it and then another amount which i cant remember for the new keys i think. This is on top of the £40 it cost to get the key which opened the car!!! really not happy at the minute!!!!

It might be worth talking to an independant specialist on this rather than a main dealer. Without wanting to get your hopes up too much, the dealer is tied to the official methods using the official equipment etc. Independants may be able to use other "unofficial" programming means not available to a dealer that does the same job without having to replace the ECU (engine control unit). This was a problem with Fiat I seem to remember, lose the master key and you have to stump up £1000 plus.

Look around, and ask local garages that do electrical work etc.

i have the auto data cd which tells you how to add new keys but you do need an original black or the grey key to then code a new key.

obtain 1 black key.

insert programmed key into ignition.

within 15 seconds .press and release accelerator ppedal 5 times.

within 20 seconds.

press and release brake pedal 6 times.

remove black key.

with in 10 seconds ,insert black key to be programmed into ignition switch.

with in 10 seconds ,press and release accelerator pedal once.

immobilizer warning lamp will flash .

after 1 minute immobilizer warning lamp will extinguish.

...

this is the guide to doing the key with one allready working but if you want to try to code it in i guess it won,t do any harm trying but don,t hold me responsable if it doesn,t work
