98 Prado Won't Start--Dash Lights Flicker, Glow Plug Relay Clicks

Hello,

I'm a newbie here. I have a '98 LandCruiser Prado with about 165,000 km on it. It generally runs very well. It's a manual tranny powered by a diesel engine.

Just today, it wouldn't start. As I engaged the ignition, the dash lights went out completely and that's all. When my friend was trying to help me jump it, the dash lights would flicker strangely and then when I would try to start it, they would go out. Also, we noticed that the glow plug relay was clicking as I would engage the ignition.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

start by checking that there's a good connection at the engine earth and Battery earth and positive.

hi mate

it seems you have to either change glow plugs relay or have it maintenanced (?) due to carbon deposits inside. It's understood the Battery must be re-charged/tested before yr next trials.

Cheers/Igor
