I have a 2005 Rav4 Petrol plus my brother purchased one at the same time.

I have done 56,000

My brother has done 99,000 he had an engine warning light come and took to a Toyota dealer who diagnosed a new Cat £400, I read with interest someone on this site was quoted £1500. What is about the right price?

Also what is the average mileage for a cambelt replacement

Hi Arthur, there are many cats for the RAV listed on eBay that should give you some idea prices ,genuine and non genuine ones.

Parts King will supply Toyota parts at a discount to members.

Has your engine got a cambelt or is it the flat one with the multi Vs which drives the alternator etc?

To be honest I have not got a clue I always believed it has a cambelt

I have had mine 6 years been so reliable but have always paid to have it serviced.

I keep reading about damage to engines when cambelts go and my brothers needs replacing hence the question.

If its a petrol then it has a chain. If its a diesel then it has a belt which should be changed by 60k.

Hi arthurpints,

Our 02 VVTi has just had a new cat fitted by our local Mr. T. Cost was £625.00. Fortunately nice Mr. Warranty Direct picked up the bill. With only 55K miles up, cat failure doesn't say much for Mr. T's supposed galactic reliability....

Bear in mind that the precious metals etc in catalyctic convertors means that the old one is worth trading in to yer local scrap metal merchant. So valuable are they that people go round stealing them.
