Problems With Auris

Hello there.

When it comes to cars I'm not that technically minded, but I'm looking for some advice on my 12 month old Auris.

Every morning I have problems starting the car, even when the weather is fine. This past few days I have been unable to start the car.

Also, when I do eventually get going the car often cuts out for no apparent reason whilst driving, normally when taking a sharp turn.

Finally the car takes forever to heat up. The coolant is fine and the oil is fine with no sign of a HG failure.

My son has an Auris, albeit the newer model, but his warms up within literally seconds of starting the car and clears even the worst frosted screen in minutes, mine takes forever, 10 - 15 minutes plus to clear the screen.

Can anyone advise what ther problem could be with the car. We've taken it back to Toyota twice and they say there is nothing wrong.

Any advice appreciated.

Many Thanks

Short Journeys dont help the engine to warm up + the weather being so cold it will take alot longer.

Warming up issue Could be Faulty:

  • Thermostat
  • Coolant temp sensor

Starting issue

Battery condition is it holding charge

Bad earth cable connection clean terminals & secure

Air filter dirty clean/replace

Engine oil should be on max line

Coolant level should be on max line

Turn heaters/wipers/lights/stereo off before trying to start as it puts less strain on your Battery

Spark plugs/glow plugs may need replacing

If its a diesel try to change the fuel filter & runing low on diesel wont help as air & water can get traped in the fuel lines in this weather minus degrees the diesel could be waxing try to keep over half a tank of diesel helps with easier starting. Allow the orange coil light for the glow plugs to go out before starting.

Keep up with your basic maintenance & you shouldnt have any issues, if its not been serviced get it done.

the engine is a 1.33 VVT petrol

What viscosity oil are you useing? Should be 0W-20 or at the most 5W-30. Cold mornings, thicker oil put a strain on the Battery

Poor starting can be a problem in cold weather. However if a car is properly maintained and serviced it should not be a concern.

I would suggest that you have a number of possible problems as has been listed ealier.

You can either try to fix it yourself, going thru the list, or you will have to pay a garage to fix it.
