Landcruiser Electrical Problem

I have a 1996 Landcruiser. For last few months I have been experiencing a mysterious problem. It seemed to start with the remote lock/security system. It occassionally would not work without pressing the remote several times, then stopped working completely. Then doors, windows and seats went on the blink. The dealer replaced a block fuse in the engine comparment, and said they could not find the problem. About a week later, I had the same problems - only much quicker. I took it back to the dealer. They said "its probably the seats because they draw the most power" on the affected fuse. Big $$$ to rip the seats out, so I did not persue. I don't like to fund a hunting excursion when the mechanic can't say what we're hunting for, so they replaced the fuse again. It blew again.

Is there anyone out there with similar problems? What, if any, was the solution? I just want to go back to the dealer armed with some information.

Thanks in advance,

Pete

I would be surprised if the heated seats were fed from the same fuse as the central door locks and locking controls.

Personally I would disconnect the heated seats as there must be a connector underneath the seat to allow the seat to be installed/removed. Then see if the problem re-occurs, if it does it isn't the heated seats causing the prob.

I too have intermittent problems with remote unlocking but if I press both buttons together for 6 seconds it seems to fix it and then it works ok. I would also suggest changing the Battery in the remote too.

I know this may sound as though it doesn't make sense but its possible that as you keep pressing the remote the controls get confused along with the actuating relays which may then overload the fuse.

I may be talking complete cxxp but hey its worth a try.

Good luck
