Steering Lock

Hi, I hope someone can help...

I recently bought a late 2006 Toyota Avensis 2.2 D-4D T3-X....

Very pleased with the car... but... the steering lock will not seem to engage when the key is removed form the steering lock. Sometimes the wheel locks, as I imagine it should, but on most occasions the steering lock will just not engage.

If you bought it from a dealer you can reasonably expect it to work so should be able to get them to sort it. If you didn't you could strip the steering column and have a look at it. Dodgy steerig locks can mean the car has been tampered with or stolen at some stage in its life. Or it may just need stripping, cleaning greasing and reassembling.

Did you find a solution? I thought avensis does not have this functionality until 2 days ago when I was able to lock my steering. But now I cannot lock it anymore.
