Toyota Previa Trouble Starting - Help!

Hello, can anyone help with the following.

I have a 2005 Toyota Previa D4D T3 diesil people carrier. Bought new and used daily as a taxi/executive hire car it has now clocked up 440,000 miles since July, 2005. Have had some issues but generally has performed well on original engine. But have a starting problem now. Have just replaced fuel injection pump. Fuel primed to pump, working through pump under pressure, fuel getting to injectors. But will not start on key, just turns over strongly but won't fire up. And here's the weird part. Will bump start, run perfectly well, not rough or missing. Left it running for over an hour but when switched off, refused to start on key again, but will bump start. So if the engine is running there don't appear to be any problems with injectors all of which have been replaced recently. (three this year, oldest one about 18 months ago) This is urgent! ANY IDEAS PLEASE.

hi matey

check all glow plugs --- if one/two of them have deviation in resistance in compare with manual -- just change them. Besides -- check with an aluminum strip that links all glow plugs (+) to have good and clean contact. If all glow plugs are in order then the respective plugs control relay has carbon covered contacts inside and needs to be cleaned. besides - -you have not state how about fuel filter. Cheers/Igor

Hi Igor,

Thanks for reply. Will check glow plugs and strip as you suggest. Will also check control relay. Fuel fiter changed on service about two weeks ago.

cheers,

Oh forgot to ask -- what was a reason of fuel injection pump changing? May be the problem is with injection timing?

In other words you are surrounded by several enemies now :) we are with YOU Mate
