Avensis (1998) Won't Start

Hi there,

We have a Toyota Avensis on an R plate, 1998 model with the 7A-FE engine.

Car starts for a few seconds then dies. We've seen a few posts about immobiliser problems... We've tried to reset the car as per the key programming procedure but it has made no difference. Is it the likely the transponder is faulty? Car was fine, doors were open for a short time whilst being cleaned and now it won't start!

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

GM

Hello, have you tried disconnecting the Battery for a few minutes of pulling out the EFI fuse ... this may work by resetting the ECU.

Regards Pete

Hi Pete,

Yes, the Battery has been disconnected overnight, to no avail. There are no fault codes present on the ECU either.

Crankshaft and camshaft signals are OK, fuel pump is OK. The car just cuts the spark off after 2 seconds. Is there anyway to reset the immobiliser?

Cheers,

GM

Hello again, as your car was produced to replace the Carina E it may have a similar system so go to this link on the Carina forum

http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=95742

as it may well help you get the car running. There is lots more stuff on the Carina E forum about Immobilser problems so if the link doesn't help then have a good look on there.

Sorry I can't help anymore than this so good luck,

Pete.
