basically i found out about the 140 vvti problems after i bought the car and the inevitable happend, big end bearing went and wrecked the crank, suspected oil pump failure, were gonna rebuild her,new crank and new oil pump,i have read couple of articles about drilling holes in the block straight to the sump to help the oil circulate, just wondering if anyone has any information about this or have done this mod with success, also if anybody had some pics of were to drill it would be very helpful and much appreciated,i love the car and always wanted one then this happend but it wont put me off and im determined to get her back on the road

Probably cheaper to source and fit an engine from a facelift car

tried but the only one we found is £1000,24/7 spares have a crank in stock, trying to find out if we can get a better oil pump for it

Bottom line, what caused the problem? I think you know about the Oil problem on early vvti engines so drilling a couple of extra holes is not going to cure it.

Bang on

You'd be better getting an engine without the design flaw i.e. facelift, that way you know its sorted once and for all

Source an engine from a car being broken or do an engine swap with a 190 (other parts are needed also). Just keep an eye open & you can bag a bargain. I got a 190 engine (2006 GT 190 engine with 26k mileage for £800).

Did you use new pistons? or drill new holes in the old pistons? And free up the old piston rings?

Replaced everything, the holes that get drilled are the oil returns made larger it helps flow return to sump so it helps, as most of the issue is in the sump, when it comes to the death rattle issue.
