Toyota Avensis 2.2 D4D Estate Water Loss

Hi all, Merry christmas, I have a toyota Avensis 2.2 d4d estate registered 2007 but is on a 56 plate, over the last few months I have been topping up the water level on the expanstion tank! the water level keeps dropping below the low mark after the engine gets hot. i have driven the car up from Wiltshire to the North East for the christmas holidays and I have noticed again that the water level is below the low mark! I have un-done the expandstion tank cap and there was presure but no water, could anybody give me advice on what to do. I topped the water up from cold and then started engine and ran it for a minute or less and the presure was instant, I think the Head gasket has gone, is there any special tools that are required for a replacement of of the head gasket and what are the torque setting for the Cylinder head bolts, the mileage is just over 94,000. many thanks andy750.

check behind the expansion tank for white spotting on the engine cover.

these engines can suffer from a head/gasket problem - luckily (as the fix is a £6k replacement 3/4 engine) Toyota acknowledge this & extended the warranty for this failure to 7 years/112k miles.

Don't touch it yourself as this will invalidate this extra warranty! get it checked by your dealer.

Since buying the car at 50,000 miles,I had the car serviced at a garage a couple of times, since then I've been servicing the car myself and therfore the book has no stamp in it. would that have any effect on the warranty which is mentioned above.

Hopefully not Andy as it is a problem recognised by Toyota but theres only one way to know for sure and thats by taking it a dealer.

Hi all, just to let you know that I got the avensis back tonight from the dealers. It had the engine replaced due to the head gasket failure, the engine replacement and work was all done under warranty which was a relief :yahoo: The engine seems to be alot smoother than before which is good. The dealer never asked for the service history he just wanted the mileage of the car. So if any of you have a problem like mine get it to your local deal ASAP for a check. Cheers Andy
