Rear Door Lock Problem

Tried to open the Rav4 XTR this morning. Both rear doors won't unlock.

- The front doors work fine, using the remote.

- Using the central locking switch makes no difference.

- I can't even manually release the door locks in the rear from the inside, the locks won't turn to the red position.

- Both child locks are (should be, but can't actually see them) off.

How could both rear doors fail at the same time like this? Is there a fuse or a common cable?

I had exactly this problem last year, in my case it was caused by the door mechanisms freezing in the extreme cold weather (-10). After using the car for a while they defrosted.
