Cd Player Not Working

Hi,being new here I am hoping for a little help,my Corolla comes with a radio-cassette,and also a seperate cd player fitted lower down the dash console,both genuine Toyota items,the cd player however does not work.It will take the cd into the machine,hold it within for about ten seconds,then ejects it.The fault finder section in the user book suggests that it might need cleaning,I have tried but to no avail,can anyone help?,thanks.

I heard somewhere that the CD goes in upside down. Sounds stupid but costs nothing to try.
