Trouble Starting

My 98 Avensis is finding it difficult to start.

I am starting it in the correct way (from manual) and it eventually starts.

There is no obvious root cause.

Has anybody else had the same problem??

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Paul :help:

Sorry I can't help answer your question, but I'm curious about what the manual says about starting. I haven't got an owner's manual for my 1998 2.0, so I follow the usual procedure of getting in and simply turning the key. Is there anything more to it, like pressing the throttle, or what?

It might be flooding, its not uncommon on cars with fuel injection and ECU's.

The easiest way is to keep it cranking with your foot full on the accelerator but do not stop cranking and try again because each time you do, more fuel is put in thus making it worse.

The other way is take the fuse out for the fuel pump until it starts then pop it back in.
